Scholars from Poland, Lithuania and All Over Europe: We Stand Together with Ukraine
Today we stand together on the side of our Ukrainian colleagues, and on the side of all of Ukraine. We ask our colleagues around the world to join us. Together we condemn Russian aggression. Together we reject the absurd ideology in the name of which the Russian aggressor denies Ukraine its right to existence, self-governance and sovereignty. We stand together with Ukraine.
Today Ukraine has become the victim of the greatest aggression in European history since the end of World War II. The Russian Federation, after a series of hostile acts, including annexation of part of its territory, is bombing targets across the country and bringing its troops into Ukraine. By doing so, the Russian Federation is violating the basic principles of the laws of nations and international laws, breaking the peace that has been built for generations, and plunging Europe into a bloody conflict.
Ukraine is not defending itself only. Ukraine defends Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Romania and other European countries. Ukraine defends the principles on which peace in Europe is based: inviolability of borders, human rights, democracy, rule of law, and dialogue.
As scholars from Poland, Lithuania and many other countries we cooperate with our colleagues in Ukraine. We know how much they contribute to the development of academia and sciences. We want to further strengthen the ties that bind us with them. We believe that the principles of our joint scholarly work - informed and critical thinking as well as mutual respect - will prove stronger than bare strength.
