Abstrakt: Recently, commentators started to discuss issues of potential liability for physicians using artificial intelligence-based clinical decision support systems (e.g. Nicholson Price II et al. 2019). However, little is known about potential public reactions to employment of such systems. Especially pressing are public reactions to cases in which harm to a patient occurs in a situation where a clinician ignores or overrules a decision recommended by the clinical decision support system. In the present paper, we present results of a set of studies on perceptions of trustworthiness and competence of clinicians in and practices of attributing moral responsibility and causality for effects of joint human-A.I. decision-making in medicine. Most importantly, the studies suggest that when given a choice between conflicting recommendations by the general consensus and A.I. clinical decision support system, clinicians who side with the latter are perceived to be less trustworthy and more blameworthy.
