Call for Posters for the Yale-Oxford-Jagiellonian Workshop on Experimental Philosophical Bioethics (27th of June 2023)

Call for Posters for the Yale-Oxford-Jagiellonian Workshop on Experimental Philosophical Bioethics (27th of June 2023)

We are accepting submissions for refereed poster presentations at the upcoming Yale-Oxford-Jagiellonian Workshop on Experimental Philosophical Bioethics which is going to be held on June 27th 2023 at the Jagiellonian University. The deadline for CFP is set for 17th of February 2023

We are accepting submissions for refereed poster presentations at the upcoming Yale-Oxford-Jagiellonian Workshop on Experimental Philosophical Bioethics. The poster presentations will be held on June 27th, 2023 as the first day of a three-day workshop concluding on June 29th at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. The confirmed keynote speakers will be Joshua Knobe (Yale) and Joanna Demaree-Cotton (Oxford). The workshop is co-sponsored by and made possible through support from the Interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics at Jagiellonian University (directed by Tomasz Żuradzki), the Yale Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics (directed by Stephen Latham), and the Oxford Uehiro Center for Practical Ethics (led by Julian Savulescu and Roger Crisp).

Experimental philosophical bioethics ("bioxphi") uses the tools of cognitive science, moral psychology, and experimental philosophy to investigate topics that are traditionally of interest to bioethicists, with an eye to contributing to substantive normative debates in medical ethics and related areas. Example papers can be found at the PhilPapers page for experimental philosophy: bioethics.

We will have 10 poster slots open, and accepted participants will be invited to attend the full workshop from June 27th-29th. We will favor poster submissions from research teams/individuals that have a graduate student, post-doc, or (other) early-career researcher(s) as the first author, although we will also consider submissions from more established researchers if there are open slots. Meals and accommodation will be covered for poster presenters (1 presenter per poster; co-authors should be listed on the poster), who are invited to attend the full workshop from June 27-29th. We may be able to provide travel support from within Europe/UK; however, due to a limited budget, we ask that any presenters who have travel funds available from their home universities or a grant rely on those funds in the first instance.

To submit, please send an email with the subject line "Poster Submission for Bioxphi 2023" to moralpsychlab@philosophy.ox.ac.uk by February 17th, 2023. The body of the email should include a proposed title for the poster, a list of authors and affiliations, and a 150-250 word abstract outlining the topic/study and (if available) results. Please clearly indicate if the first author is a graduate student, post-doc, or other early-career researcher (within 5 years of PhD); please also indicate if any data have already been collected/analyzed or whether the study is in-progress. In addition to empirical work, we will consider purely theoretical posters that engage with bioxphi/empirical bioethics along with those that address normative and metaphilosophical implications of other sorts of empirical work and relevant topics in biomedicine.

Please direct any questions to brian.earp@philosophy.ox.ac.uk or julia.kolak@mssm.edu.
