16th December 2021: Research seminar - Dariusz Miękisz: Can antidepressants alter your moral senses?
We have the pleasure to invite you to another research seminar in the ‘BIOUNCERTAINTY’ research project. The seminar will take place on Thursday, 16th of December 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in room 25 in the Institute of Philosophy of Jagiellonian University, Grodzka 52, Cracow and via MS Teams (link in the description).
Abstract: The studies done so far have shown that a single dose of an SSRI (serotoninergic antidepressant) can make people more altruistic and increase their harm aversion tendency. In this talk, I’ll outline the plan of my research in which the “moral effects” of long term SSRI treatment will be measured. According to my hypothesis, they can be significantly different than (maybe even opposite of) the effect of a single dose. Learning how antidepressants alter moral choices can tell us something about those drugs themselves, but also can help us discriminate between rival metaethical theories that describe the source of moral judgment (dual-process vs. sentimentalist theories).
