Short visiting fellowships at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków

Short visiting fellowships at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics (INCET) at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków welcomes applications for short (no longer than about two weeks) visiting fellowships for the year 2024. Submissions from Ukrainian scholars are especially welcome (also for longer stays). We particularly support applications from scholars who plan to come to Kraków to work jointly with us on applications to secure funding for a research project. We will review applications on an ongoing basis.

Candidates should:

  • demonstrate an interest in the topics: ethics, bioethics, value theory, moral psychology, philosophy of science (with regard to biomedical science);

  • present a paper at our weekly research seminar (a working paper, one recently published or a research proposal);

  • be ready to actively participate in our research activities (seminars, lectures, conferences).

We particularly support applications from scholars who plan to secure funding for their research projects, which would at least partly be conducted at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics. For example, we would be happy to support fellows in the planning and writing the applications to the National Science Centre (e.g. Polonez Bis), Horizon Europe Framework Programme (e.g. Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships), or the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (e.g. Polskie Powroty, Ulam).

The visiting fellowships are intended mainly for junior faculty, postdocs or advanced PhD students.

For further information, please contact us at incet@uj.edu.pl

The application should contain:

  • a CV,
  • a short motivation letter, explaining your research plans related to the project BIOUNCERTAINTY and your preferred start and end dates (no more than 2 pages),
  • a recent publication.

There is no deadline, we will review applications on an ongoing basis.

Please send your application in one PDF file, with "visiting fellowships" in the subject line, to: incet@uj.edu.pl
Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis.

Visiting fellows receive:

  • a travel reimbursement (up to 300 euro),
  • an accommodation (or an accommodation allowance),

In some cases it is possible also to receive a tax-free stipend (about 30 euro/daily) for other expenses. The stipend can be awarded on a special request of a visiting fellow.

They will also have access to the Jagiellonian University libraries and their own desk in central Kraków, on 52 Grodzka Street.

The Jagiellonian University is one of the oldest universities in Europe (established in 1364) and it has been rated as the best university in Poland (e.g. by the new QS World University Rankings 2020). The Interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics and the Institute of Philosophy provide a vibrant research environment and are recognised as being among the best philosophy departments in Poland.
